Education vs Vibrant Youth

Looking at Geju High School: The community has done fairly well to effect some progress in the development of the school.  There have been challenges, but the achievements far outweighed the challenges. Twenty eleven has been a year of progress and hope. Our greatest  setback is the 2012 Post Establishment which reduced educators from 10 to 6. We then need more support from various stakeholders involved in Cata development. The library setting is promising, the school program on which local young people assists learners to understand tourism has been a great achievement. It is so good to see young people who did not have a chance to further their studies do something with the knowledge they have. This does not only keep them off the streets and drugs, but also give them opportunities to improve their lives. Six young people who were part of the program last year are now at tertiary- that is what happens when you know what you want to achieve in life!

  Cata and Culture

Believe me when I say Culture is one of the strongest strengths when it comes to tourist attraction in Cata. The uniqueness of the experience offers the visitor the insight into life in a rural village in South Africa . Not a created experience from yesteryear but a current reflection on life in a rural African village. The quality of the accommodation, the activities provided and the guides ensure that those experiences are enjoyable. Cata is a safe travel destination- that you experience the moment you arrive.  The people are friendly the hospitality and even the kids are great. Cata is a paradise for children… bicycling or horse-riding or learning a little of the local language. And, of course, they could meet the local children and together with them, look for cattle in the afternoon.

But Cata is not as ordinary as you might think first when you enter the village. During apartheid the village underwent a complete forced removal from the hills to the valley. This programme was ironically called “betterment“ and affected millions of people all over South Africa. This, and the successful fight for restitution, is documented in the Cata museum. read more
